It was a pleasure to have Sheryl Gwyther work with our students. Sheryl delivered workshops and presentations to students from years 3 to 9, before guiding our senior students on a three-day writing camp in the rainforest of Paluma. Her theoretical knowledge of the writing process was exemplary and her ability to use real-world stimuli to inform her work was inspirational.
She was generous with her one-on-one feedback to students, culminating in vast improvements in our students’ written expression and creative ideas. She was easy going and relatable to both our staff and students, making it a positive experience for all in attendance. Our students enjoyed Sheryl’s Author-in-Residence week with us. She did a great job appealing to a wide range of ages, from Preps to Year 6, and I appreciate the preparation she put in ahead of time. Her sessions also inspired the older grades who have not yet read Secrets of Eromanga to continue and use the text in their lessons. The students have even done some follow up research about the Elliot dinosaur.
